The Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur region: an artistic and historical region

Nestled between the sea, the mountains, picturesque villages and artistic inspirations, the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur (P.A.C.A) region has an outstanding historical and cultural heritage.

Along the Mediterranean Sea and the Italian border, the P.A.C.A. region enjoys an idyllic location at the gateway to the largest French cities: Marseille, Nice, Aix-en-Provence, Cannes and Saint-Tropez. Appreciated for its climate and gentle lifestyle throughout the year, the P.A.C.A. region offers its visitors a variety of landscapes that can be found on the canvas of the greatest painters. Indeed, Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Cézanne and Pablo Picasso were inspired by the seaside landscapes, the vast green expanses of the Camargue and the snow-capped mountain peaks of the region. Admiration for the gentle lifestyle and the diversity of landscapes in the P.A.C.A. region is also reflected in the literature of Alphonse Daudet, Marcel Pagnol and Jean Giono.

Stroll through the winding streets of the picturesque villages of Provence where you will discover old stone houses with undisputable charm. At the end of the narrow streets, you will find several small squares with an ancient fountain in the middle. Then follow in the footsteps of Van Gogh in the famous little village of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and admire the white stones and olive groves of the charming village of Fontvieille which inspired Alphonse Daudet so much. Take a trip along the Mediterranean coastline and enjoy the fine sand and pebble beaches. Only an hour-drive from the coast, in the Alpes de Haute-Provence, you can enjoy the wide-open spaces and pure mountain air. In winter, you will glide down the many ski slopes, while in summer you will go on numerous hikes and bike rides.

The P.A.C.A. region is also renowned for its Provençal art of living and is full of local bistros and restaurant terraces where gastronomy has pride of place and where conviviality and authenticity are key words.
